Late Work
If you are enrolled in the intro class, you will work mostly at your own pace. If you are not working quickly enough - or too quickly! - we will have a conversation to address that.
If you are enrolled in an advanced class, the following guidelines apply.
Quizzes and Tests
Quizzes and Tests are taken on certain days. Please be sure you review and understand our attendance policy and our mastery work policy.
Tardies and Lates
Due dates on other assignments are firm. To get an extension, you must use a Late or a Tardy.
You will be granted three (3) tardies and three (3) lates which you can use to give yourself extensions on assignments. This policy is very similar to a policy I had in place for years, but it is slightly modified. Please read this page carefully and let me know if you have any questions.
Using a Tardy
You can use a tardy on any assignment as long as…
- the assignment is not a quiz or test
- the assignment is valued at more than twenty (20) points.
You do not need to ask to use a tardy. When you use one, you get one more class day to complete the assignment. For example, if you have an assignment due on a Wednesday, you can use a tardy to move the due date for that assignment to the next day on which your section meets.
Once you run out of tardies, you need to use a Late in accordance with the guidelines for using lates below.
Using a Late
You can use a late on any assignment as long as the assignment is not a quiz or test
In order to use a Late, you must have a conversation with your teacher about it (preferrably in person, but exceptions may be allowed) BEFORE the due date for the assignment. When you use a tardy, you extend the assignment due date to the first class day that is more than seven calendar days after the original due date.
What about breaks?
A tardy or a late may never be used to extend a due date over a break from school of five days or more.
What if I run out?
If you run out of tardies and lates, we will revert to the late policy which governs 9th-graders. Essentially, you can request another late for an assignment. Keep in mind that these will only be granted in unusual circumstances. See me if you have any questions.
See this FAQ for more information about the evolution of the late work policy in this course.
